My Grandfather’s Tractors

(on my mother’s side)

Dora’s father owned a McCormack 1530 tractor. The McCormack 15-30 was a common tractor in Canada during the 1920s. My Uncle Paul was sure to mention that the tractor had steel wheels. On the right side of the tracor is a wheel called the flywheel. When you were threshing with a threshing machine, a long belt was placed on the flywheel and attached to the treshing machine. This wheel provided the power to make the threshing machine run.

(On my father’s Side)

My Dad’s father owned a Rumely Oil Pull. I remember seeing it discarded in a bush near my home town. A threshing crew was very large as you can see from this photo of my grandfather’s crew. Notice the number of horse teams with hayracks filled with sheaves which will be tossed into the threshing machine. Notice also the long belt from the tractor to the threshing machine.
